REMEMBERING NICK THE GREEK
Certainly the best-known gambler of the modern era, Nick Dandolos, better known as Nick the Greek, was both myth and legend in his time. Synonymous with the high roller image that most Americans had come to associate with Las Vegas in the '50s, Nick had the skill, the confidence and the flair to stay atop his game his entire life.
Hi, everyone! I'm Elaine Campbell, and I wrote this book about a very dear and old friend of mine whom I knew as "Nick." Simply Nick! He was a man who was always where the action was, but who, as I came to discover during our friendship, had a quieter and deeper side. He had a Turkish university degree in philosophy, and he could recite any poem in the English language by heart - and he'd even make bets on that!
My Friend Nick the Greek is an affectionate, but realistic, portrait of a man whose presence enhanced an entire city, and without whom Las Vegas in the '50s would not have been the same.
I extend my invitation to you to meet Nick and visit Old Las Vegas along with us.
